ABOUT THE ARTIST

There are some advantages in being retired.  For me it is having the freedom to develop my life-long interest in art.  Although it would take another lifetime to achieve the level of proficiency I desire, it is true that the "Journey is the reward".

As an undergraduate at Plymouth State College (now PSU) in the 1960s, majoring in secondary math education, I was fortunate to take a drawing selective with the renounded artist, Karl Dreup.  He encouraged me by telling me "I could see".  Later in the 1980s, I returned to Plymouth State College and was again fortunate to study sculpture with Bob Morton and figure and advanced drawing with Annete Mitchell.  The memory of their excellent instructions is with me still.

While raising a family, teaching math in a Christian school and doing the books for a family owned business, I made terracotta figurative and animal sculptures as a hobby.  I referenced Bruno Lucchesi books and videos.  I have spent my retirement years learning to oil paint through the use of many books, and Richard Schmid and David Leffel videos.  While my focus is on portraiture, including horses and other animals.  I also paint landscapes and seascapes.  I am inspired by the beauty and wonder of God and His creation.  As Job said, I have heard of Thee by the hearing of my ears, but now my eye sees Thee.
